Mesa Falls

We took a trip to Mesa Falls. Shaun was a great tour guide, he has learned a lot about the falls in his Natural Disasters class. The falls were beautiful. Heavenly Father created them through a volcano and water erosion.

My mom and sister came to visit for the weekend so they came along. Like I've said before, family dates count, too!

Shaun took pictures of all the pretty vegetation around. I think he is a great photographer.

Independence Date Night

Date night fell on the day the country celebrated Independence Day. Naturally our date was to watch the fireworks display in our hometown.

We had fun being together out in the night air. I love Shaun.

Homework

Shaun has been so overloaded with homework lately. Because I knew he was stressed, I was planning on maybe doing a spa night for our date night this weekend and giving him a good foot massage. Shaun loved the idea but as time kept slipping away as he worked we realized that he had too many assignments still due by mid-night. We turned homework into our date night and I sat with Shaun and we did his homework together. It turned out to be so much fun and I am being serious! We laughed and laughed (and yawned -- it was almost midnight) the whole way through it. It brought us closer together and that's what these date nights are for, right?

The GL logo at the top of this Website says "Geology Labs" but it really stands for "Geek Labs"!

Homework was a good date. "Very romantical" ;) ...wait, wheres Shaun? jk

Frisbee and the Gardens

Campus has beautiful gardens with trees and ponds and fountains and flowers. It was fun to walk though because it was so peaceful. This was Shaun's pick, I loved it. There are fields near there and that's where we played frisbee. Shaun knows lots of cool ways to throw the frisbee to make it go where you want. Next to both of these places is an orchard that was also peaceful to walk through. There we saw a rabbit hopping around and we watched some birds try to trick us by acting like they were hurt to distract us and to protect their nest. It was a regular nature channel experience

We really did spend time talking and falling in love as we walked and walked. (Just trust me, ok. You don't need a picture of both of us together even though it was supposed to be a date!)

Karaoke, Anyone?

This was Shaun's turn to pick the date. It was awesome.

We googled "free karaoke music" and found an endless supply of music of all kinds. It worked great and google = free date!
Sometimes this little guy joins us for date night when we are wanting to get started earlier. Family dates count, right? :) He was a natural, by the way!

We took turns picking the songs and we were cracking each other up!

We made BBQ chicken pizza for the first time. I have a feeling that this is going to be a family favorite. We'll eat this pizza every week! ...Ok, maybe not that often.

After Lincoln went to sleep we played Twister. We tried using an automatic caller that we also found through google. The caller was a little too creepy, though. This was fun. We'll be doing it again for sure.

Movie Night

Shaun's sister brought a few of our nieces and nephews up for a baseball game this weekend. They got to stay one night at our house and we all went to the Movie Theater to watch "Shrek: Forever After". We absolutely loved their visit! Because they were here we moved our date night to Sunday night. We found a free movie streaming of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat." Great picture of the event (above), don't you think?

For a movie snack, we made no bake cookies (affectionately called, "Poop Drops" at our house). This little guy kept asking for more and then he figured out that he could just get his own. This maneuver was much harder than scooting a chair over, but I am sure not going to tell him that!

Flaming Gorge

We had a three day long date! We went to Flaming Gorge with Shaun's cousin, Randy, and his new wife, Brittany. We stayed in a Cabin that Shaun's Grandpa built. To put it lightly, It was fun! This was the first time I have ever spent a night away from Lincoln! I thought it would be torture to be away and worry about him. It wasn't though! My mom did a great job babysitting him. (I should know I called about three times a day to hear him say, "Hi, Mom!") Taking this much time to be together and enjoy nature and to have no other care in the world was amazing. We fell in love. Well, more in love I guess. We had time to talk and laugh and kiss. I think this three day long date was like a triple dose of date night. It was totally worth it.

This is Shaun speaking. This was a really special date for me because I got to take Emily to a place that is really close to my heart. I have so many memories here from all ages of my life. It was really fun to hear Emily say, "did you ever think when you were a little kid that you would have your wife with you in this cabin?" She would ask that in a lot of different places which really made me ponder those times of my life. I think it is a good date idea to go to a place that is special to one of you and share it with your best friend. I really enjoyed being with just Emily in such a special place!

We took an educational tour of the Flaming Gorge Dam.
We also hit golf balls off the deck into a nearby pond. I thought that was a highlight of the trip as well.

Craft and Decorate

Obviously this was my turn to pick the date. Shaun was so cool about it and we had lots of fun creating a display for our living room wall.

The squares are really just cardboard from our moving boxes that we recently unpacked. We didn't need much fabric at all. This date wasn't free but it was really cheap!

Shaun has a good eye for building things and I learned tonight that he is good at decorating too. I shall probably never hang something on the wall again with out asking for his expert leveling/eyeballing skills. We arranged the squares over and over again and sat on the couch to see if we liked it. Working on a project, especially if it is a favorite hobby for your or your spouse is a fun date night!

We both love spending time together in the living room. We're pretty proud of our art!
We forgot to take any pictures of me on the date, too! Rookie mistake! ;)
